Welcome

A collection of work created from an intuitive  response to the environment

'Estar' a painter and printmaker inspired by the natural world, rural environments, coast, sea, moors and the industrial  landscape of Northern England and beyond.

When beginning the painting or printing process Estar has no preconceived ideas, the process is organic and begins with little directional thought other than the colours and processes which might be used and the emotional response to the work being created. Once the basis of an idea begins to formulate though the placement of form then the work will reveal itself.

The process is an intuitive one not beginning from photographs or sketches, it starts from an idea in the mind inspired by subconscious experiences and memories, feelings and retained imagery from the landscape and life.  When painting Estar just begins          experimenting, applying paint, making marks, trying out ideas.  Paintings are washed back after a few layers of paint, revealing interesting textures and surprising marks, the layering continues, without over thinking the process, just letting the painting happen, when the painting opens up then control is taken to complete the process.
